Northumbria Blood Bikes regret to announce that one of our volunteers was involved in a road traffic accident at approx 19:00 this evening, while on active duty on the A69 Eastbound near Ovingham. The rider was treated at the scene and taken by ambulance to the Royal Victoria Infirmary Newcastle. They have a broken clavicle and a broken elbow, together with multiple minor injuries, but is expected to make a complete recovery.

The rider also expressed thanks the other team members who attended the incident for their quick response, and of course to Debbie Paton, our duty co-ordinator, who handled the response efficiently and ensured continuity of service.

Please bear in mind that the incident remains under investigation at this time, therefore we are unable to comment further. We would ask that readers of this post refrain from any speculation while enquiries continue.
