The Cyclone Festival of Cycling was created in 2007 to encourage as many people as possible to get out on their bikes, get fitter and enjoy the countryside. It is a multi faceted event designed to cater for the needs of competitive and none competitive cyclists. There are events to meet the needs of all who wish to compete or just ride for pleasure as well as allowing spectators to see some of the best riders in the World in action.

The event takes place from Thursday 28th June to Sunday 1st July and includes rides for all ages and abilities, including leisurley family rides, challenge rides and even competitive road racing.

Northumbria Blood Bikes is an official partner of the Cyclone.  So why not take part in the Cyclone while raising money for Northumbria Blood Bikes?

Reasons to ride for us

  1. You will be helping patients across the North East.  Northumbria Blood Bikes provides a free out of hours’ delivery service for blood and other medical items.  We are run solely by volunteers, nobody gets paid.  So you know that all of the money you raise will go directly to making a difference.
  2. You will get an exclusive Northumbria Blood Bikes top.

What do i need to do?

Go to Cyclone website and chose your event.  Then sign up on sign up page.  You will have the option to choose a charity to fund-raise for, select Northumbria Blood Bikes.  The Cyclone event will then pass your details on to us so we can get in contact with you. (please feel free to contact us at cycling@northumbriabloodbikes.org.uk if you don't hear anything)

We will ask you to setup a fundraising page using the Virgin Money Giving site.  We ask that you aim to raise a minimum of £50 (some of this will go towards the cost of you Northumbria Blood Bikes cycling vest).

Then all you need to do is start fundraising and preparing for your event.

Why do I have to setup a fundraising page?

  1. The online fundraising page is completely free for fundraisers and donors to use. Charities are better off because it's 100% not-for-profit, so any charges are as low as possible.
  2. It allows donors to pay quickly and safely using a range of payment methods.  Most importantly it means you don't have to go round and collect in the money you have raised after the event, which can prove time consuming.
  3. Having an online fundraising account means you can make use of social media to promote your fundraising and help increase the amount you raise.
  4. Gift Aid is reclaimed and passed on in full.
  5. Donations are paid to charities once a week.  This means we can start putting the money you raise to good use straight away.
