Who We Are & What We Do

Northumbria Blood Bikes is a volunteer-run charity, delivering urgent medical supplies - blood, samples, medication, and more, out of hours, across the North East. We operate free of charge to the NHS, allowing them to put saved funds directly into patient care. And in recognition of our dedication and professionalism, in 2017 we were awarded The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the highest honour for volunteer groups in the UK.

How to Get Involved

Registration for Team Blood Bikes at the Great North Run 2027 is now open!

There are two ways you can join Team Blood Bikes:

• Need a Great North Run place? You can register to join Team Blood Bikes and purchase one of our charity places using our registration form.

• Already secured your own place through the ballot? You can still be part of our team by registering to join and committing to raise at least £50 in sponsorship.

Once you sign up, we’ll equip you with everything you need - from your branded kit to fundraising tips - to make your Great North Run experience unforgettable.

Your Impact

• Every £ raised helps fund fuel, maintenance, and essentials to keep our vital service running.

• In 2024 we delivered over 13,000 urgent packages to hospitals and air ambulance services - bringing our total to over 125,000 deliveries since we began.

• You’re helping us save lives in Newcastle, North Tyneside, Northumberland, Gateshead, South Tyneside, Durham and Darlington.
