New Shift Controllers

So, you have volunteered to become a Shift Controller, now is a good time to get you prepared for the first shift.

There are three stages to the controller training programme:

1: Sit with your trainer whilst they run a shift taking calls from hospitals, despatching riders / drivers and logging call information onto a paper form initially

2: Use the 'Wave Dispatch' web based radio and tracking system

3: Use the various electronic job loggers (OARS) to record database details of calls upon completion of the job

On the day of your first supervised shift with your trainer, you will be shown how to:

1. Connect to our 'Virtually Local' call divert website and put your contact number for phone calls to come to you. Instructions for this are here
2. Once that's done, essentially you become the first point of contact with hospitals and other NHS users.
3. Access the 'Wave Dispatch' online radio system in ordser to communicate with riders & drivers.
4. Record calls as they come in, asking relevant simple questions and  then dispatch the most appropriate vehicle resource
5. Transfer call data onto the electronic OARS system when the jobs are completed.

When you and your trainer are happy that you can operate as a solo controller, you will be signed off but will always have telephone contact with your trainer as required.
