Relay with a difference

Another first for Northumbria Blood Bikes. Today we took part in a relay with a difference. The FMT sample began it’s journey from Salisbury Hospital Path Lab in the hands of SERV Wessex - The Blood Runners. It was then taken to Thruxton Airfield where it was passed on to the Civil Air Support who flew it to Newcastle International Airport. Our volunteer rider, Jeff, collected it on our newest Blood Bike ‘Morpeth’ and delivered it to Newcastle Genetics Laboratory at the Centre For Life.

Due to this sample being time sensitive it required the support of CAS and only took 3.5hours instead of over 6hours if completed by road. Thank you to all those involved in the logistics and transportation.

Plus, it was the first time Blood Bike ‘Morpeth’ has taken part in a relay.
