Milk Run

Today our volunteer driver John has completed an urgent milk run from the Northumbria Hub in Morpeth down to The James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.

What is a Human Milk Bank/Hub?
Human Milk Banks are similar to the Blood Banks. All donor milk is first pasteurised, screened and frozen at the Milk Bank and then it is transported and stored in medical grade freezers at the Milk Hubs. Milk Hubs have been established to ensure that all parts of the country have access to donor human milk.

Who it helps...
Supporting families to feed their babies, including parents with premature or sick babies in neonatal intensive care, and families at home such as parents with health conditions like cancer, and those who need support with breastfeeding and establishing their own milk supply. For premature babies human milk is essential in helping to prevent serious complications.
