Relay from Scotland to Leeds

Today three Blood Bike groups have taken part in a national relay of samples.

Beginning with Blood Bikes Scotland at Victoria Hospital, in Kirkcaldy, down to Berwick-upon-Tweed where it was handed over to Northumbria Blood Bikes driver Clive. It was then transported down to Scotch Corner and handed over to Whiteknights Yorkshire Blood Bikes for its final leg of the relay to Biochemistry Dept at St James Hospital in Leeds.

Relays take place as sometimes samples require testing that can only be completed in certain laboratories due to the specialist nature of some rarer conditions. This relay was necessary as the samples were for a rare inherited metabolic condition.

All completed completely free of charge for the NHS by Blood Bike volunteers.
