Why I volunteer…
“I started as a volunteer rider and driver in November 2019. Rider / Driver and in the future I would like to volunteer as a speaker and fundraiser.
I can fit my volunteer shifts around my lifestyle as I’m self employed and control my own weekly diary. Flexibility is the key I suppose.
On my first ever shift I was dispatched to Hexham General Hospital, I was met by a nurse at the door who give me some samples for a transfer to North Tyneside General Hospital, the nurse said “ I’ve a very poorly patient on my ward and need these results ASAP as it’s suspected sepsis!” It dawned on me the importance of Northumbria Blood Bikes role within the NHS.
I’m very proud to be able to give something back to the amazing NHS and I would urge anyone to come forward to give their time to volunteer to this amazing charity. As a Northumberland Freemason I know how much support is given to the Blood Bikes and I know how well thought of the service is by the Freemasons in general.
My name is Thomas W Stewart and that’s why I volunteer for Northumbria Blood Bikes.”
