#BloodBikeDay 2018

Today we celebrate our fourth National Blood Bikes Awareness Day and we focus this year on working alongside other groups and organisations.

As we do not have a physical address or base as such we have a great working relationship with the North East Ambulance Service and Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue whom over the years have allowed us the opportunity to use varies bases for our vehicles. This has been invaluable to enabling us the chance to have vehicles across our region. Meaning our volunteers do not have far to travel when they are on shift to collect their chosen bike or car.

Part of our work is the transportation of blood and plasma ‘Blood on Board’ for the Great North Air Ambulance. The Henry Surtees Foundation kindly supports us with this work through the donation of a dedicated car to transport supplies to the Great North Air Ambulance 365 days of the year.

We are lucky to say that we are supported by a great network or groups and organisations that have either given their time and expertise, loan of space on their premises or vital funding. For example Heidi Mottram OBE and CEO Northumbrian Water, is one of our proud patrons and, has facilitated our postal address at Northumbria House. Local WI, Rotary Clubs and Masonic groups have also been key people in not only spreading the word about our work but making donations to our cause. The Mason’s have not only been huge supporters of our regional Blood Bike charity but have donated a substantial amount of money across the country to enable other Blood Bike charities to purchase vehicles.

Since we became operational we have received so much support from many different groups and organisations it is difficult to thank everyone individually. If you haven’t been mentioned above it is not because we do not value what you have done for us but we have been truly blessed with working with such a large number of supportive groups. Thank you to everybody Northumbria Blood Bikes have had the privilege of being involved with. Without you we would not be where we are today.

Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our committed volunteers and generous support we’ve received we can continue to #makeadifference together and save lives #ItsWhatWeDo. We’re proud to be Northumbria Blood Bikes #BloodBikesDay
