Why I volunteer…
“I first heard about Blood Bikes at Tesco at Kingston Park in November 2014. Over the year chances are you have dropped something off for me, so I wanted to give something back. Also it is a way to give back to the hospitals that have helped me over the years. I joined Northumbria Blood Bikes in October 2015. I currently volunteer as a coordinator and fundraiser. I also do part of the induction meeting. When I turn 25 I am hoping to be a driver. I work full time Monday to Friday so I am only free to volunteer at the weekends but due to the variation in the coordinator shifts and the fundraising events I can normally do something every other weekend. The best thing I have experienced is the willingness of every member to help each other not just when you’re on duty but outside Northumbria Blood Bikes. Also the fact that everyone is willing to go the extra mile to ensure the service is the best it can be and help people we will never meet or know the outcome.

My most memorable moment was at a fundraising event at Dobbies when a young girl stopped at the collection bucket and got out her own purse. She then put her pocket money into the bucket. It was heartwarming that a young girl could give her own money. She was so pleased when I gave her a key ring. If you are thinking of joining try it it's the best thing you can do. Volunteer with a group that will become your friends and help save people lives.

My name is Tegan Rawlinson and that is why I volunteer for Northumbria Blood Bikes.”
