Volunteers Week - Committee

Kirsty Lawrence's picture

Thank you to those that have stepped up to take on the role as a committee member and a trustee of our charity. Your leadership, support and expertise is appreciated. It can be hard at times and feel like a thankless task but your contributions do #makeadifference.

Volunteers Week - Auxiliary Roles

Kirsty Lawrence's picture

Many auxiliary roles are admin based work but they also include roles involved in maintaining our fleet and service plus supporting new recruits on their path to becoming active volunteers. Most volunteers that hold auxiliary roles are also riders, drivers, shift controllers and fundraisers. Our volunteers care deeply and they step up to support our charity in additional roles. Thank you for all that you do.

Volunteers Week - Speakers

Kirsty Lawrence's picture

Our small but dedicated team of speakers present to groups, clubs and other organisations to professionally promote our charity’s service. They help us to increase awareness about who we are and what we do. Like our fundraisers opportunities have been limited over the past year although we have seen a couple of virtual ‘talks’ held. Our sincerest thanks for all the talks previously held and those to come.

Volunteers Week - Shift Controller

Our amazing team of shift controllers are the point of contact for any NHS organisation that requires our service. They decide, in a timely manner, which is the most appropriate shift vehicle and volunteer to pass the job to. Once the shift vehicle is ‘in flight’ the controller supports them at all times, recording their progress and they are their ‘eyes in the sky’.

Volunteers Week - Riders

All of our riders hold an advanced certificate and are the role most associated with our charity. The role is varied taking whatever the NHS requests us to transport, if it doesn’t fit on a bike we also have cars, they also attend our fundraising events and talks helping to promote our work.

Blood Bike ‘Scott’ has retired.

Kirsty Lawrence's picture

A year later than originally planned Blood Bike ‘Scott’ has officially been decommissioned and retired from our fleet. Just as the world was turned upside down last year we had planned for ‘Scott’ to leave our operational fleet however as delays for parts for our other vehicles and with the increase in demand for our service would have added extra pressure we decided to delay his retirement.
