Following investigation and testing by a group of members, and subsequent approval by a ballot of all members, NBB is moving ahead with the purchase and introduction of an Andromeda radio system for operational use. In the first phase the system will be covering the three duty bike riders and the two duty car drivers and puts them in two-way communication with each other and with our in-house shift controllers. Additionally, the radios can be tracked and with the aid of GPS technology the precise locations of all of the radios can be monitored over the internet by our shift controllers.

The BBC's Carol Malia has kindly agreed to become our very first Patron. She is allowing us to use her name and image within the promotional and publicity media. It's great to have such a high-profile public name associated with the Charity and we thank Carol for agreeing to undertake this role.
OnTuesday 13th January Northumbria Blood Bikes went live supporting the Great North Air Ambulance with their "Blood on Board" project.
As of this week, the Air Ambulance service now has the capacity to deliver fresh blood supplies to the scene of life threatening accidents, and carry out roadside blood transfusions; GNAAS is one of only a few air ambulances in the world to perform this life-saving procedure. Northumbria Blood Bikes and our firends at Blood Bikes Cumbria are providing the blood transport to and from the airfields.
We are proud to announce that we have completed our 1000th Blood run since we started our service in February this year!
The fact that this comes only nine weeks after reaching the milestone of our 500th job is testament to way our service is becoming embedded in the processes of the local NHS Trusts.
Many thanks to the hundreds of volunteers, riders, drivers and fundraisers, and to the thousands of supporters with their generous donations, who made this possible.
