Dare we say the 'C' word in August? Today marks the launch of our design our 2018 Christmas Card Competition. This is the first year we will have our very own Christmas card and we would like you to design it for us. See below for more details:
On Friday evening a few of this year’s #BloodBikesGNR team held a fundraising night at the Derwent Manor Hotel. The event included a lovely three course meal, a quick game of bingo, tombola, raffle and live entertainment from the fantastic Random Numbers. It proved a great success with the team raising just over £1200.
Northumbria Blood Bikes is bidding to bag a massive cash boost from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative.
Tesco teamed up with Groundwork to launch its community funding scheme, which sees grants of £4,000, £2,000 and £1,000 raised from carrier bag sales in Tesco stores awarded to local community projects.
Three groups in every Tesco region have been shortlisted to receive the cash award and shoppers are being invited to head along to Tesco stores to vote for who they think should take away the top grant.
Northumbria Blood Bikes is one of the groups on the shortlist.
The new addition to the Northumbria Blood Bike’s fleet was purchased with a £15,000 grant from the Masonic Charitable Foundation as part of the 300th anniversary celebrations of Freemasonry.
The bike, which has been appropriately named Durham Mason, proudly includes the MCF and Durham Freemasons logos across its livery. The brand new fully equipped bike will become part of the operational fleet helping to save lives across the North East.

Before Feb, 2017, I had never heard of Northumbria Blood Bikes, but I saw one of their vehicles parked on Ratcliffe Road in our village. So I asked the rider, Sam Quigley, what they did. He gave a brief résumé of their purpose and I was intrigued; mostly by the fact that they not only transport blood, but medical notes, samples, medical equipment and so much more.
“I found out about the charity through Northumbria Advanced Motorcycles and joined in April 2016 as a rider and driver.
It can be tricky to fit volunteering into my daily life with 3 children under 10 and a busy professional life; however Northumbria Blood Bikes have a variety of shifts and roles available so there is always something that will fit with your work and family commitments.
